LEPT is the application of photon energy (light energy) to targeted soft tissues. It is used to treat all musculoskeletal conditions from acute sports injuries to repetitive strain conditions and chronic pain.

What are the benefits of LEPT?

  • Decrease pain
  • Decrease swelling
  • Decrease scar tissue
  • Improve circulation
  • Improve rate, quality and tensile strength of soft tissue repair
  • Enhance nerve function
  • Improve mobility
  • How is LEPT applied?

The probes are placed in contact with the skin and held in place or attached with a strap. Usually, you will not feel any sensation. However, when the probes are placed over very sensitive areas, you may feel a tingling sensation.

Are there risks with LEPT?

Occasionally, dizziness or a change in blood pressure have been observed. Your Physiotherapist will discuss these with you.

How does LEPT work?

LEPT probes generate a 3-D distribution of photon energy that penetrates into targeted soft tissues using light emitting diodes (LED). Parameters are selected to target fascia, nerves, muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. Low energy photons stimulate circulation, enzyme activity, protein synthesis and ATP.

What is the evidence supporting LEPT?

  • 15+ years of clinical studies with International Medical Instruments LEPT technology.
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: 83% subjective improvement and objective normalization of nerve conduction.
  • Venous Ulcers: within 3 weeks treated group’s ulcers decreased by 55% and the placebo group increased by 24%; after 10 weeks, 76% of the ulcers were healed in the treated group and only 15% in the placebo group.
